Crisis averted

I feel so good that I resisted the urge to buy 2 packs of Magic cards today. Score one for self-control!

Something about those packs always gets to me. Not today though!

Back to blogging!

I think it's time for another post. I have been pretty lazy recently and have neglected to post anything of substance. Let's get back in the game...

Disneyworld Florida

What can I say about Disneyworld? It was wonderful! Strangely, I enjoy it more now as an adult than as a kid. I guess it's because the last time I went, I belonged in the "I'm too cool for Mickey Mouse" phase. Now I can look at the slick landscapes and the carefully engineered/marketed characters and actually have an appreciation for it all. Not to mention that Pixar is now a big part of the Disney equation - good to see Buzz Lightyear and some of the other modern characters. The weather was amazing in June, and the rides were quite exciting.

By comparison, Universal Studios Florida was underwhelming. The rides just weren't as slick or timeless, and everything had this "appeal to pre-teens" feel to it. Picked up a wicked Punisher shirt at the Marvel store there, though.

What else? Oh yeah, Premium Outlets Orlando was great and I picked up three Lacoste shirts. Maybe it's the US recession or something, but when we went on the weekend there were very few shoppers present.

Had some interesting chats with the taxi drivers. Chatted to one guy about his internet business. He told me it was hard to make it in America as an African-American, and that Chinese people had it easier. Hmm.

Scotiabank half marathon

I still can't believe I finished it. I really felt like quitting 18k into it but I forced myself mentally to stay in the race. The feeling of completing it was just unbelievably awesome.

Toronto

Visited Toronto for the first time as part of a work trip. Great, great city. Really enjoyed my brief stay there. Unfortunately the Blue Jays weren't playing that week - d'oh!

Toronto is pretty cool except for a couple of annoyances:
  • The taxi service is really crappy. I've not had worse taxi service. One taxi was running a shady non-metered operation, another was late for 30 minutes, the list goes on. Avoid!
  • The city didn't smell very good.
  • The subway system isn't very convenient and only lets you get to certain select locations.
Still, those are small nitpicks. Hopefully I'll get to visit again sometime.

Half marathon tomorrow

The Scotiabank half marathon is tomorrow. Will be running from UBC to Stanley Park!

Last Sunday I tried to run 17k and couldn't feel my legs afterwards. Here's hoping for a good result when the real competition starts!

Robyn

Still remember her hit song from the 90's...this girl is back and I'm loving her new album. Here is a live version of one of her new songs, very well done.

Disneyworld in 2 days!

Should be a GREAT time.

I also finalized registration for the Scotiabank Half Marathon in June. 12 days of fun followed by 2 hours of hell :-)

Sixers up 2-1

Sammy sticks it to the Pistons

Dalembert had a huge game with 22 points and 16 boards. Overall the Sixers had a nice balanced attack with 4 players in double figures. Iggy was still in a scoring funk but it didn't matter as the Sixers blew the game open in the third quarter. Even some of the youngsters like Jason Smith showed glimpses of the future.

Next game is tomorrow in Detroit - GO SIXERS!

NBA playoffs round 1 continued

Make some shots tonight!

Detroit vs. Philly game 3 tonight...must win game for Philly. They're at home, they got schooled bad last game, time to bounce back! As I predicted, Iggy got shut down and he needs to figure out something. Well, a midrange game would help, but maybe next season!

If you're the Nuggets, do not anger Kobe or he'll drop 49 on ya.

Rockets finally won against the Jazz. I guess Skip is integral to their team, T-Mac doesn't have to carry the load as much. I love Bobby Jax but dude is gettin' old...

How do you lead a series 2-0 and then get blown out by 30 points in the next game? I don't know either...
